Praised for his ‘verve and adroit collaborative piano playing’ by the Charleston City Paper, Tyler Weakland is a pianist, organist, conductor, composer, arranger/orchestrator, producer, and vocal coach. As an Adjunct Instructor in Choral Studies at Westminster Choir College of Rider University, he is Associate Conductor of the Westminster Symphonic Choir and Westminster Choir, where he prepares the choirs in major choral works for performances with professional orchestras at prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall and the Metropolitan Opera.
He has collaborated with many professional singers including Benita Valente, Sharon Sweet, Laura Brooks Rice, Mark Moliterno, Theodora Hanslowe, Elizabeth Sutton, and Laquita Mitchell. As a vocal coach he has worked with students at Mannes School of Music in NYC, TCNJ, and WCC, coaching art song, opera, and musical theatre. A member of the artistic staff of Westrick Music Academy as a collaborative pianist since 2018,
Mr. Weakland is now the Co-Music Director of the Princeton Boychoir conducting the high school level Young Men’s Ensemble. He has appeared as continuo organist with the Orchestra of Luke’s NYC for a performance of El Mesìas: Handel’s Messiah for a New World.
Mr. Weakland was head of production for the 30th Anniversary Celebration of Westminster Choir College’s An Evening of Readings & Carols that was recorded live and broadcast around the country on PBS, in which he also conducted. He recently was a contractor, arranger, and conductor of a handbell ensemble for a Hulu series pilot in NYC’s Gotham Hall. As a composer, his portfolio includes art songs, hymn arrangements, brass arrangements, handbell music, and choral works. He currently serves as Associate Music Director, Organ Scholar, & Handbell Choir Director at Christ Church United Methodist on 60th and Park Avenue in NYC.
He received his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Sacred Music with concentrations in piano, voice, and organ from Westminster Choir College.
